French Colonial Studies The history department is the host site for the Center for French Colonial Studies, founded in 1983 in response to renewed interest among historians, anthropologists, archaeologists, genealogists, and preservationists in the history of the upper Mississippi Valley from 1673 to the mid-19th century.
